Glass Slipper completed her serious work ahead of Saturday’s New Zealand 1000 Guineas with an eye-catching gallop at Matamata this morning.
Working 20 metres out on a dead course proper, Glass Slipper (C Grylls) was partnered by Eletist (Bailey) over 1000m in 1:07.4, with their last 600m in 38.2 the best final section of the session.
With black-type placings at her last two starts, Glass Slipper goes into the Riccarton fillies’ classic as New Zealand’s highest rated maiden and looks in the right shape for another bold bid on the weekend. Eletist is entered for the open 1400 at Tauranga, with trainer Glenn Old hoping for rain on the day to advance his prospects.
Sound Proposition was ridden by his raceday jockey Michael Coleman as he prepared for the Tauranga Stakes with 1200m in 1:25.1, 1000m in 1:10.1 and 600m in 40.6. He has made good progress since his first-up run, but won’t be helped by forecast rain for the weekend.
Race rival Abidewithme (McNab) went with Tiffany’s Time (Lammas) over a truly run 1000m in 1:06.4 and 39.4. Abidewithme had no luck when finishing third fresh-up but has taken a lot of benefit from the run, while last-start maiden graduate Tiffany’s Time is in good order for the Tauranga three-year-old 1400.
Volpe Veloce (Rastrick), who returns to Tauranga for the same race, was unextended in her work over 1200m in 1:26.4, 1:12 and 40.8. She has trained on well from her last-start win. Stablemate Realta (Rastrick) impressed in her work with Pure Lorde (Gorham), striding over 1200m in 1:21.4, 1:08.2 and 41.4. After two preparatory runs Realta will step up to a middle-distance at Tauranga.
Rocknrolla (Grant) and Star Ella (A Jones) prepared for Tauranga with 1200m in 1:20.4, 1:06.6 and 40.3. Star Ella did well for a maiden to finish the gallop upside of her well-performed stablemate.
Ultimata (Coleman) covered 1200m in 1:22.9, 1:07.6 and 39.5 ahead of her Tauranga engagement, while Shez Swanky (Turner) and Right Here Waiting (Newman) left 1000m behind in 1:07.2 and 39.
No Fuss Gus (C Grylls) and Kane (S Weatherley) ran the same distance in 1:08.2 and 39.4. No Fuss Gus runs at Tauranga and his stablemate may head to Dargaville on Friday. Wild Flower (C Grylls) and Good Lookin’ Gal (Gorham) also worked over 1000m, returning 1:07.2 and 39.5.
