Matamata Trackwork Tuesday 6 December 2016: Recorded by Dennis Ryan
06 Dec 2016

Snapshot looked on the way back to his best form when he galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning.

Working on the plough, Snapshot (Rastrick) strode from the 1200-metre mark to run that distance in 1:19.7, quickening over the last 1000m in 1:04.2 and finishing with a final 600m in 36.

Snapshot has taken a lot of improvement out of his first-up run in the Counties Bowl and will enjoy the step up to 1400 metres in the feature sprint at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Another class act in the Richardson team, unbeaten filly Volpe Veloce (Rastrick), worked on the all-weather track where she strode through her first round and then built momentum to run 1200m in 1:23.8, 1000m in 1:09.2 and 600m in 38.3. She was never at top and looks in capital order for the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni on the weekend.

The only horse to work on the course proper, which was good 22 metres out, was Te Rapa candidate Ruby Armani (D Weatherley) who strode over 1000m in 1:12.2 and 600m in 40.4.

Back on the plough Aotearower (Coleman) caught the eye as she led Mister Impatience (D Weatherley) to the end of 1200m in an impressive 1:14.8, 1:00.5 and 35.8. Aotearower will be entered for the Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa, with a fall back option the Rating 85 1600.

Chambord (Miller) and Chadsdale (McNab), respective entries for Awapuni and Ellerslie on Sunday, impressed in their work over 1000m in 1:03.6 and 35.8. Over the same distance Vive La Difference (Lammas) and Sebrose (Fawcett) clocked 1:03.6 and 36.4, Our Abbadean (McNab) and Exhibition (Miller) 1:03.2 and 36, and Los Vargas (Tynan) 1:01.8 and 35.8.

Mary Quant (C Grylls) worked well in preparation for Te Rapa as she cut out 1000m in 1:04.2 and 36.8, while El Cajero (Newman) and Red Keep (M Jones) had paced on throughout 1200m in 1:14.7 and 1000m in 1:00.2. Fog prevented any further sectional timing.

The same applied in a smart gallop by Burning Bright (P Turner) and Massofdash (R Jones) over 1200m in 1:17.2 and 1:02.4. Te Rapa runner Clarify (P McKay) went with Tauranga Friday entry Plimmer (S McKay) over 1200m in 1:16.8, 1:01.8 and 36.6.

Mistrahma (Gorham) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:14.5, 1:01.2 and 36.8, while Battle Royal (A Jones) and Cool Running (K McQuade) did similar work to record 1:14.9, 1:00.3 and 35.8.

Barcelo (P McKay) prepared for the three-year-old feature at Ellerslie on Sunday when paired with Tyrion (S McKay) over 1000m in 1:05.2 and 37.5. Wimbledon (M Jones) and Durango (R Jones) were not after time over 1200m in 1:26, 1:10.2 and 40.6. Swing Note (McNab) went well over 800m in 51.8 and 36.9.

Others to work over ground included Shocking Luck (McNab) and Madam Monica (K Price) who covered 1200m in 1:18.1, 1:05.2 and 38.2, Good Lookin’ Gal (Gorham) 1:21.4, 1:05 and 38.5, Star Ella (A Jones) 1:24.8, 1:08.6 and 40.2, All Knitted Up (Bourke) 1:18.4, 1:05.2 and 38.6, and Crackthegoodstuff (Murray) 1:18.7, 1:04.5 and 38.7.

Ellerslie candidates Great Expectations (Gorham) and Princess Lolita (Tynan) were in good form over 1000m in 1:00.8 and 35.4. Xtravagant (Miller) was well held over 800m in 1:00.4 and 44.7.
