Matamata Trackwork Tuesday 30 May 2017: Recorded by Dennis Ryan
30 May 2017

Underthemoonlight looked ready for her Wanganui weekend assignment when she got through smart work at Matamata this morning.

Galloping on the sand with trainer Karyn McQuade in the saddle, Underthemoonlight worked away steadily from the 1200-metre mark to run that distance in 1:18.8, picking up momentum for a final 1000m in 1:04.9 and flattening out impressively over the last 600m in 35.9.

The El Hermano mare, who has been placed in all three starts this campaign, is in solid order for the step up to 1600 metres in the Listed A G Challenge Stakes, in which Michael Coleman will again ride her.

Good Vibes (J Brosnan), another heading to Wanganui on Saturday, indicated another winning run for the in-form Peter and Jess Brosnan team when he cut out 1000m on the sand in 1:03.8 and 36.2. Barnaby (S McKay) was also in good form as he got through 1000m in 1:04.6 and 36.5. He is coming to hand in pleasing style.

So True (Grant) and Crackthegoodstuff (Tierney) strode together over 1200m in 1:19.8, 1:05.5 and 38.2. Hello M’Lady (K McQuade) was well held over 1000m in 1:08 and 41.2, while Fortaleza (C Grylls) ran the same distance in 1:10.1 and 40.2, and Saint Finn (C Grylls) returned 1:14.3 and 43.

On the course proper, which was heavy 25 metres out, Persuasive (Coleman) and Rocksun (McNab) prepared for Ellerslie on Saturday with sound work over 1000m in 1:09.4 and 600m in 39.4.

The Gary Hennessy-trained pair What We Do (Miles) and Fortune Kept (Fawcett) did good work ahead of Wanganui as they strode over 1200m in 1:22.8, 1:07.8 and 40.2.

On the all-weather track Ellerslie entry Valante (S McKay) went with Amarula (P McKay) over 1000m in 1:07.4, finishing off with 600m in 38.5. Stablemate Barcelo (S McKay) worked solo over the same distance in 1:08.4 and 38.2.

Taaxman (T Gillies), looking fitter for his recent first-up run, left 1000m behind in 1:08.2 and 40.4, while Lewis Road (C Grylls) and a Per Incanto filly in the Richardson-Parker stable (Fraser-Hayes) ran the same trip in 1:08.2 and 39.
