Matamata Trackwork Tuesday 18 July 2017: Recorderd by Dennis Ryan
18 Jul 2017

Ruakaka form runner Amarula looked ready for the step up to a middle-distance on the weekend when he hit out boldly in training at Matamata this morning.

Amarula (S McKay) and fellow Ruakaka entry Valante (R Jones) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:17.6, with the last 1200m in 1:02.6 and the final 600m in 36.7. It was very good work by both horses.

Amarula’s stablemate Barcelo (S McKay) also caught the eye ahead of Ruakaka as he and Danger Dee (R Jones) completed sound work over 1000m in 1:05.5 and 38.5.

Cambridge visitor Memories Only (R Jones) was in brilliant form as he cut out 1000m in 59.8, with his last 600m in 35. Trainer Linda Laing is hoping for improvement from the talented three-year-old at Ruakaka on the weekend.

Papa Ragazzo (Newman) left 1000m behind in 1:05.6 and 37.6, while his stablemate I’m Bronson (Fawcett) was timed over his last 600m in 37.8. Clarify (S McKay) appeared to relish his work over 800m in 49.8 and 37.2. He has returned in solid order.

On the course proper, which was heavy 25 metres out, Silverdale (McNab) and Tavis Star (Lammas) were well matched over 1000m in 1:10.3, finishing off strongly with a final 600m in 40.6.  Silverdale is coming to hand pleasingly and steps up to 1400 metres at Ruakaka on Saturday, while Tavis Star could be an improver in her New Plymouth engagement.

Resurrect (R Jones), a possible runner at Te Aroha on Friday, looked bright in his work over 1000m in 1:11.5 and 40.8. Last-start maiden graduate Belle Capri (S McKay) prepared for New Plymouth in company with Sally Lunn (Handley) over 1000m in 1:13.8, quickening from the 600m in 41.2.

Pacquiao (Gorham) and En Soie (Rastrick) hit the line well at the end of 1000m in 1:11.7 and 41. They are likely to run at their local meeting next Wednesday. Another in that category, Caterina, was keen in the early stages as trainer Tony Gillies took her over 1200m in 1:26.4, 1:12.6 and 43.8. Beauty Rose (Coleman) was well held over the last 800m of her work in 56.8 and 41.3.

On the sand Sufficient Funds (Miles) and Dontbreakmyheart (P Brosnan) underlined their fitness for Hastings in Thursday with a slick 1000m gallop in 1:03.6 and 36.6.

It’s a Kinda Magic (P Brosnan) and Deebee Surprise (Miles) also got through their work well over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 36.5. Over the same distance Rose Royal (Grant) and Taazman (Danis) caught the eye clocking a smart 1:03.8 and 36.

Hello M’Lady (K McQuade) returned 1:05.9 and 38.9 for her 1000m, while Sleeping Beauty (S Weatherley) took 1:08.2 and 39, Press My Buttons (Dellow) and a Cape Blanco filly (Rastrick) 1:09.5 and 38.8, and Vanilla Moon (Coleman) 1:11.2 and 40.7.

Capella (Dowling) was allowed to stretch out over the last 800m of her work in 57 and 41.4. Recollect (Fraser-Hayes) was also well held when covering 1000m in 1:15.4 and 44.8, while in similar work Dragon Rio (Dowling) took 1:18 and 45.2, and Fort Eliza (Rastrick) 1:16.4 and 44.7.

Choux Lace (Wright) worked over ground with the last 1200m in 1:27.8 and 40.4. Divine Duke (S Weatherley) was kept to 1:32.6 and 46 over the same distance.
