07 Nov 2017

Te Rapa feature sprint rivals Heroic Valour and Irish Moon prepared for their weekend clash with smart work at Matamata this morning.

Galloping 22 metres out on a dead course proper, Heroic Valour (McNab) was paired with Don’tblamethemusic (Lammas) over a solid 1000m in 1:05.8, cutting out the final 600m in 37.9. Heroic Valour will be having his first start since the Queensland winter carnival but has the benefit of a recent trial win. Don’tblamethemusic had no luck in his first run back from a spell and looks ready to run a race at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Irish Moon, a rival for Heroic Valour in the Group Three sprint at Te Rapa, hit out freely over 1000m in 1:05.6 and 37.7. He should strip at peak fitness on the weekend.

Cia Si Bao (S Weatherley) was another Te Rapa entry to underline his prospects with sound work, running 1000m in company with Mr Selfridge (Ravi) in 1:04 and 38.2. Hot In High Heels (Lammas) worked at a good even rate over ground, with her 1200m in 1:21.8, 1:08 and 40.6.

Princess Kereru (Coleman) and Wide Awake (Bakar) were paired over 1000m in 1:05.5 and 37.8. Princess Kereru goes to Te Rapa, while Wide Awake is entered for Avondale on Friday. Spring Heat (Coleman) did good work ahead of her Hastings Sunday engagement when she and Amazing Banker (S Weatherley) cut out 1000m in 1:08.8 and 38.9.

Aotearower (Wratten) prepared for Te Rapa with 1200m in 1:23.5, 1:08.1 and 39.2, while Over Torque (Grant) and Miss Sequoia (A Jones) covered the same distance in 1:20.3, 1:-6 and 40.

Te Rapa two-year-old entry Al Hasa (McNab) and possible Otaki Thursday runner Pinot Grey (Lammas) travelled up well at the end of 800m in 56.3 and 40.3. Golden Song (Fawcett) and Switch Pitcher (P Turner) were timed over their last 600m in 39.8.

Elettra (Lammas) was keen in her work over 1000m in 1:05.4 and 38.8, while Princess Davone (Burdan) ran the same trip in 1:05.5 and 38.7, Elegant d’Oro (Pinn) and Beaumarchais (McNab) took 1:07.5 and 38.7, Dazed And Confused (Lammas) and English Rose (Bakar) 1:07.9 and 39.6, On The Rocks (Satyajeed) 1:05.2 and 38.9, and Pacquiao (Gorham) and Uralla (Handley) 1:09.5 and 40.4.

On the sand Sarabande (Fawcett) drew attention to her Te Rapa prospects when she completed 1000m in 1:03.8 and 600m in 38.6. Battle Royal (K McQuade) ran the same distance in 1:06.4 and 37.8, while Avondale entry Voler Pour Moi (Loon) and Jewel Of Patch (S Weatherley) recorded 1:09.4 and 39.

Hatrick Boys (Dowling) and Mizen Peak (Tynan) wasted no time in their 1000m hitout in 1:03.9 and 36.4. The Boy Wonder (Clements) was more contained when running 1:07.2 and 38.8, while Lillet Rose (Burdan) and Lady Painton (Lammas) took 1:08.9 and 40.2.

Contessa Belle (Cox) and Tourmaline (Handley) strode over 1200m in 1:19.8, 1:06.2 and 38.4. Sweet Leader (Coleman) was allowed an easy workout, clocking 42.3 for his final 600m.
