Matamata Track work 28th December 2017: recorded by Dennis Ryan
29 Dec 2017

Sistema Railway favourite Volpe Veloce and several rivals in the big New Year’s Day sprint completed pleasing work at Matamata this morning.

With raceday rider Jake Bayliss in the saddle, Volpe Veloce worked on the course proper, which was good 12 metres out, and was unextended over 1000m in 1:04.4, completing her task with a final 600m in 36.6. The Richardson/Parker-trained mare has thrived since her last-start Ellerslie win.

The Autridge/Richards-trained Railway duo Heroic Valour (Bosson) and Melody Belle (McNab) were paired in smart work over 1000m in 1:03.4, reeling off the final section in 35.3. They have both trained on well from their last start placings behind Volpe Veloce.

Irish Moon (Coleman) also appeared to have made good progress since his Awapuni win when he cut out 1000m on the plough in 1:02.6 and 35.9. Railway outsider Sweet Leader (Bayliss) went with Aero de Paris (Yanagida) over 1000m in a smart 1:01.3 and 36.

Rich Hill Mile entry Charles Road (Bayliss) and fellow Ellerslie runner Cha Siu Bao (Yanagida) ran a solid 1200m in 1:15.6, 1:00.9 and 36, while Royal Success (McNab) and Master Painton (Bosson) completed their work over ground with 1200m in 1:21.5, 1:05.2 and 36.8, and Sasanof’s Hero (Abel) returned 1:23.5, 1:07.2 and 39.

Miss Horotiu (Coleman) prepared for Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:05.4 and 37.6. Over the same ground Eclipse Stakes runner Al Hasa (Bosson) went with Griffin (Lammas) in 1:08.2 and 38.5, The Matrix (P Turner) and a Swiss Ace filly (Fawcett) 1:02.9 and 36, Scrutinize (McNab) and Motivation (McNab) 1:06.6 and 36.9, Rock Me (Burdan) 1:04.6 and 36.8, All Razzle Dazzle (Coleman) 1:07.6 and 38.5, and Poppin’ Bubbles (Bosson) and Trendsetting (McNab) 1:04.1 and 36.9.

Te Akau Shark (Bosson), who will resume next week at either Hastings or Tauranga, went with Wandering Eye (Lammas) over 1000m in 1:05.2 and 37.3. Kane (Bayliss) was well held over the same ground in 1:11.5 and 41.4, as was Bits And Pieces (Coleman) in 1:10.8 and 41.4.

Keyser Soze (Bayliss) and Smart Patch (Yanagida) did good work over ground, timed from the 1200m in 1:21.9, 1:05.7 and 36.7. Miss Foxy Gal (Osborne) ran her 1200m in 1:24, 1:07.8 and 38.2. Over 1000m Pinot Grey (Lammas) and Avantage (Bosson) returned 1:08.5 and 38, and Wide Awake (Lammas) and Fashionably (Newman) 1:04.5 and 36.8.
