Taranaki Cup contendors Watch This Space and Our King Sway underlined their fitness for Saturday’s New Plymouth feature with impressive trackwork at Matamata this morning.

On the plough Our King Sway (A Jones) worked over ground with his three-year-old stablemate Anevay (S Weatherley), timed for the final 1200m in 1:19.8, with the last 1000m in 1:04.3 and 600m in 36.6. The Glenn Old-trained pair are both in good order for their New Plymouth assignments, when Our King Sway will be out to defend his Taranaki Cup crown and Anevay runs in the Oaks Prelude.

Thorndon Mile placegetter Watch This Space (S Weatherley) looked in the right shape for the Taranaki Cup as he stride into his work over 1200m, running the full distance in 1:17.5 and after picking up Bit Lippy (Lammas), taking 1:02.3 for the last 1000m and 37 for the final section. Bit Lippy is an entrant for the New Plymouth two-year-old feature.

Wisdom Patch (Loon), another juvenile heading in the same direction, was impressive in his work with Autumn Wild (S Weatherley) over 1000m in 1:01.4 and 36.3. New Plymouth Cup entry Grazia (Lammas) was paired with Scrutinize (Miller) over 1200m in 1:22.3, 1:04.6 and 36.9, while She’s Prismatic (J Price) and Flaunt It Girl (S McKay) prepared for the weekend over 1000m in 1:07.6 and 39.3.

The Mayor (S Weatherley) and Miss Fox Gal (Osborne), entries for the local meeting on Friday, were timed in solid work over 1200m in 1:16, 1:01.8 and 36.3, while Hello Sailor (Yanagida) and Barzellar (Ravi) ran the same trip in 1:16.8, 1:02 and 36.7.

Hot In High Heels (S Turner) set off several lengths behind Shockool (Yates) and worked up alongside to record 1:28.2 for 1200m, 1:09.8 for the last 1000m and 37.6 for the final 600m.

Xbox (Handley) continued his Waikato Guineas preparation when he and Lewis Road (Hashazumi) strode over the last 1200m of their work in 1:20.4, 1:04.2 and 38.6. Others to work over ground included Miss Horotiu (M Brosnan) with 1200m in 1:25.2, 1:07.4 and 39.2, Divine Duke (R Jones) 1:26, 1:09.4 and 40.5, Keyser Soze (S Weatherley) 1:24.2 and 39.6, and Lillet Rose (Miller) and  Unfazed (K Price) 1:26.2 and 40.

Over 1000m Inigo Montoya (S Weatherley) and Soda (Loon) returned 1:03 and 36.9, Barcelo (S McKay) and Matuzalem (Wratten), Scorching Time (Tan) and Sokitome (Newman) 1:09.8 and 40, Marija (Loon) and Stellar Days (Yanagida) 1:02.5 and 36.2, Gardenier (Newman) and Handsome Rebel (Bakker) 1:03.4 and 37.2, Spree (Coleman) 1:10 and 40.2, The Mitigator (S McKay) and Tavistan (J McKay), Tessastock (Handley) and Precision Miss (Hashazumi) 1:08.8 and 38.4.

On the all-weather track No Finer Pins (A Jones) and Virtuoso Lad (Tynan) were timed over 1000m in 1:06.7 and 37, while Vein d’Or (Coleman) covered the same ground in 1:09.2 and 39. Over Torque (Coleman) completed striding work with 1200m in 1:22.5, 1:07.4 and 39.7.
