Track Work 27th March - recorded by Dennis Ryan
27 Mar 2018

Fog hindered timing at Matamata this morning as several candidates for the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes impressed when they prepared for Saturday’s Awapuni meeting.

Avantage and Handsome Rebel were ridden by their respective raceday jockeys Danielle Johnson and Shafiq Rusof in their galloped on the plough. They could be timed only over 1000m, which they cut out in 1:09.4, appearing to quicken readily over the final stages and hitting the line strongly.

On the course proper where the going was dead, Bocce (Lammas) and She’s A Thief (Bayliss) were timed over 1000m in 1:06.9. They also looked strong up the straight and in good condition for Saturday’s two-year-old feature.

Sistema Stakes winner Sword Of Osman had raceday rider Opie Bosson in the saddle when he and stablemate Heroic Valour (Yusof) worked over 1000m on the course proper. Unfortunately no time was possible, but they emerged from the fog full of running and completed the gallop well on the bridle.

Sword Of Osman has pleased connections since his big Ellerslie win and is in capital order to complete the Group One double on the weekend.

The only other course proper gallop involved Awapuni entries Joe’s Legacy (J Price) and She’s Prismatic (Grob), who were timed over 1000m in 1:08.7 and 800m in 54.5.

Back on the plough La Mia Stella (Handley) and En Soie (Hashazumi) caught the eye amongst those that could be timed, leaving 1200m behind in 1:16.4 and 1000m in 1:01.4.

Perroquet (S Weatherley) and Our Abbadean (Yusof) worked well in preparation for Awapuni as they cut out 1200m in 1:17.3, 1:02.2 and 36.2. Promising filly Perroquet is an entry for the Manawatu Classic, while last-start Trentham winner Our Abbadean is in the Awapuni Gold Cup.

Publicist (Bosson) and Full Of Grace (Burdan) were timed over 1000m in 1:06.2, while Heart Of Courage (Bosson) and Aquilo (Tan) were well held as they worked away from the 1000m mark to record 1:13.4.
