Track Work 10th April - Recorded by Dennis Ryan
10 Apr 2018

Our Abbadean looked on target to complete a hat-trick in Saturday’s Hawkes Bay Gold Cup when she hit out boldly in training at Matamata this morning.

Galloping on the plough with raceday rider Shafiq Rusof in the saddle, Our Abbadean set off over ground to run the last 1200m of her work in 1:19.2. She picked up stablemate Paulownia (McNab) along the way, recording 1:04.2 for the last 1000m and completing the hitout with a final 600m in 36.4.

Our Abbadean has trained on well since her Awapuni Gold Cup win and promises to be hard to beat again, while Paulownia, who has been freshened since her Wellington Guineas placings, is being aimed at the Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes at the end of the month.

Galaxy Miss (Dowling) and Sunburst (Lammas) were paired in sound work on the course proper, where the going was dead and the markers set at 18 metres. They were timed over 1000m in 1:03.9 and 600m in 37.2. Galaxy Miss will run at Te Rapa on the weekend and her stablemate heads to Pukekohe on Saturday week for the Championship Stakes.

Back on the plough, Pacquiao (Handley) and Short Fuse (Hashazumi) caught the eye as they prepared for Te Rapa over a smart 1000m in 1:00.4 and 600m in 36. Stablemate Pure Lorde (Zuppicich) worked over ground, with her 1200m taking 1:20.5, 1:05.4 and 38.

Jetwings (S Weatherley) prepared for Te Rapa with 1200m in 1:25.4, 1:05.6 and 36.9, while Hastings-bound Vanilla Moon (Bayliss) followed in 1:24.8, 1:05.2 and 37. Hastings entry Barcelo (S McKay) cut out 1000m in 1:04.6 and 37.5, and Shelley’s Ace (K McQuade) wasted no time over the same ground in 1:02.4 and 36.2.

Promising two-year-olds Willpower (McNab) and Quatro Katie (Rusof) worked well without being extended over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 37. Over the same ground Rotorua Friday entry Bits And Pieces (Lammas) returned 1:06 and 36.9, Ali Baba (Grob) 1:08.2 and 39, Simply Divine (P Turner) 1:08 and 37.6, and Kitaya (Dowling) 1:08.5 and 38.8.

En Soie (Handley) and Swiss Maid (Hashazumi) did good work over ground, timed from the 1200m in 1:18.2, 1:05.5 and 37, while Divine Duke (Bayliss) and Miss Foxy Gal (S Weatherley) took 1:20.2, 1:04.8 and 36.8, Arabian Duke (K McQuade) 1:19.5, 1:04 and 37.2, Master Poet (M Brosnan) 1:22, 1:08.2 and 41.3, and Letmeby (Handley) and Dubai Shuffle (Zuppicich) 1:20.3, 1:06.4 and 37.8.

Amongst those to work steadily over 1000m were The Chaser (McNab) in 1:11.8 and 42.2, Adis (Donoghue) 1:15.2 and 43.4, Pwerfect (Yates) and Swoon (N Turner) 1:13.6 and 40.5, Truman (Lammas) 1:14.2 and 43.3, and Princess Kereru (Coleman) 1:17.5 and 42.8.

On the all-weather track Mighty Connor (J McKay) and Cassius Clay (S McKay) hit out boldly over 1000m in 1:04.2 and 37.2.

Over the same ground Liquid Inspiration (Roff) took 1:06.4 and 37, and Sure He Can (Danis) and Alpha Star (Roff) 1:08 and 38.2. He’s No Saint (Coleman) was never at top as he strode into his work with 1200m in 1:26.6, 1:11.2 and 41.2.
