Group One stars Melody Belle and On The Rocks confirmed their fitness for Saturday’s Bonecrusher Stakes with impressive work at Matamata this morning.

Melody Belle had raceday rider Opie Bosson in the saddle when she and Vainglory (S Collett) were paired in a solid gallop over ground on the plough, cutting out their last 1200m in 1:16.7, 1000m in 1:02.5 and the last 600m in 37.

Trainer Jamie Richards was more than satisfied with Melody Belle’s work ahead of her middle-distance debut in Saturday’s weight-for-age feature, when she will be shooting for her fifth Group One win this season. It was good work also by the Cody Cole-trained Vainglory, who runs in Rating 65 grade on the weekend.

On The Rocks did his work on the course proper, where the going was dead 20 metres out. Raceday rider Jake Bayliss let the grey roll from the winning post to be at three-quarter-pace by the 1200 and was timed from there in 1:24.8, building momentum for a final 1000m in 1:09.5 and 600m in 39.2.

On The Rocks has thrived since his last-start win in the Herbie Dyke Stakes. His Auckland Cup-bound stablemate Vengeur Masque also looked well when confined to striding work following his arrival from Melbourne on Sunday.

Back on the plough Bonecrusher Stakes entry Tiptronic (Handley) went with Vichy (Hashizume) in solid work over 1200m in 1:18.5, 1:03.4 and a smart final 600m in 35.5.

Auckland Cup favourite Charles Road (Grylls) was comfortable throughout his work over ground, finishing off with 1200m in 1:20.1, 1:04.5 and 37. He is fit and ready for Saturday’s two-miler.

Sistema Stakes candidates Yourdeel (Bosson) and Aotea Lad (McNab) were paired over 1000m, beginning steadily and building momentum to record 1:06.4 for the full distance and 36.3 from the 600. Both hit the line strongly.

Stablemate Equinox (Bosson) got through his Sistema work impressively in company with Trentham entry Don’tblamethemusic (McNab), cutting out 1000m in 1:03.8 and 36. The Helix (S Collett) and Together (Bosson) prepared for Ellerslie over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 38.4, while Trentham juvenile entry Cisjurane (Bosson) was timed from the 800m in 54.8 and 39.2 and Gwendolyn Rose (Newman) and Trusting Soul (Ravi) took 52.5 and 37.4.

Amano (Grylls) and Ocean Go (Miles) left 1200m behind in 1:21.2, 1:05.2 and 37.8, Avoca Willow (M Brosnan) ran the same trip in 1:21, 1:06.4 and 38.2, Iffraajinator (A Jones) took 1:23, 1:07.2 and 39.2, Swiss Maid (Hashizume) 1:24.7, 1:09.2 and 39, Press My Buttons (Bayliss) 1:26.2, 1:10.3 and 40.8, and En Soie (Handley) 1:26.5, 1:10 and 38.6.

Our Abbadean (Kamaruddin) was never at top over 1000m in 1:13.4 and 42.2, while Nothing Trivial (Danis) returned 1:10.2 and 40.8.

On the all-weather track Emerald Amour (P McKay) and The Glint (S McKay) prepared for Ellerslie with a well-held 1000m in 1:10.2 and 38.4. Watch This Space (Hillis) reeled off the same trip in 1:02.8 and 36.
