English Rose looked set for a return to winning form on the weekend when she galloped impressively at Matamata this morning.

Working 12 metres out on heavy course proper, English Rose (T Harris) and Bojangles (Burdan) strode over 1200m in 1:22.2, with the last 1000m in 1:06.6 and the final 600m in 38.9. After finishing second at Hawera in her most recent appearance English Rose rates a strong prospect at Te Awamutu on Sunday, while Bojangles doesn’t have to improve a lot to be a chance at Awapuni on Saturday.

Rough Conduct (Tierney) was keen through the early stages of his 1000m gallop in 1:05.7 and did well to complete the final 600m in 40.2. Qian Gua (Miller) was allowed a steady hitout over 1200m in 1:28.9 and 42.6, while Grand Ariana (T Harris) did similar work over 1000m in 1:15.1 and 43.4.

On the all-weather track King Khalid (S McKay) prepared for Ruakaka on Saturday in company with Yamuna (Danis), cutting out 1000m in 1:05.2 and 36.8.

Another for Ruakaka, Don’t Doubt Me (Danis), worked on the sand with Azabeat (McCall), completing 1000m in 1:05.8 and 36.6. Over the same ground Its A Kinda Magic (P Brosnan) and Goodnight Irene (Fawcett) took 1:05.6 and 36.8, and Nuttee (M Brosnan) 1:06.5 and 37.6.

Hello M’Lady (Prendergast), whose next mission will be the fillies and mares’ feature at Tauranga next week, caught the eye over 1000m in 1:03.9 and 36.8. Battle Royal (J Brosnan) and Heavenly Gold (P Brosnan) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:16.8, 1:03.5 and 37.6.
