Tweedledee and Spring Heat looked on target for their home track engagements this weekend when they worked impressively together at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

With first use of the course proper where the going was dead 22 metres out, Tweedledee (Yoto) and Spring Heat (Yanagida) set off at a leisurely rate from the 1200m mark, running the distance in 1:24.6 and quickening for a final 1000m in 1:05.8 and 600m in 37.

Tweedledee comes into Saturday’s Team Wealleans Matamata Cup off a low rating but has impressive track statistics, while Spring Heat has had two preparatory trials ahead of her fresh-up run in the Rating 82 sprint.

She’s Not Bad (Kamaruddin) and Burgundy Belle (T Harris), rivals for Spring Heat, also impressed in their work over 1000m in 1:09 and 38.5, while Katie Perrie (J Collett) underlined her weekend prospects with smart work over the same ground in 1:06.2 and 39.2.

Matamata Cup entry Mongolianconqueror (Bosson) and In A Twinkling (McNab), who heads to Hawera for the Egmont Cup, worked well over 1000m in 1:06.5 and 38.8. Super Hoof (Danis) impressed in his work ahead of Saturday’s R82 2000 when he led Bravissimo (Coleman) at the end of 1000m in 1:07.6 and 38.8. Race rival Divine Duke (Yanagida) was timed over the same distance in 1:07.2 and 38.2, while One Madison (Yoto) followed in 1:05.5 and 38.4.

Livin’ On A Prayer (Danis) and Khorabella (Kozaki) were paired over 1000m in 1:09.5 and 38.9. Livin’ On A Prayer heads to Hawera for the Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes, while Khorabella will be a fresh runner on her home track. Rhapsody In Blue (McNab) and Joe’s Legacy (Roustoby) were paired in sound work over 1000m in 1:06 and 38.3.

Last-start winners Shezathinka (Bosson) and Shebringsmerubies (Roustoby) strode over 1200m in 1:22.7, 1:07.8 and 39.7. Luminous (T Harris), who also appears to have trained on well since her last-start win, went solo over 1200m in 1:22.4, with fog restricting a sectional split to 800m in 52.3.

Others who could not be timed due to fog but completed their work well included Matamata three-year-old 1400 candidates Equinox and Harlech, as well as weekend runners Garnet, Dependsonsituation and La Mia Stella.
