Polly Grey looked ready for another winning effort on the weekend when she galloped impressively at Matamata this morning.

Working late in the session after the slow ground 20 metres out on the course proper had cut up considerably, Polly Grey (Kozaki) was partnered by her stablemate Ricky Baker (J Fawcett) over 1200m in 1:21.6, the last 1000m in 1:07 and 600m 39.8.

The Kylie Fawcett-trained pair are heading to Trentham, where Polly Grey will attempt to add the Gr. 3 Thompson Handicap to her exemplary formline. With a three-meeting Saturday, riders will be in short supply across Ellerslie, Trentham and Riccarton, leading Fawcett to engage Japanese jockey Ryoya Kozaki for her pair.

Codecracker (Coleman) underlined her Ellerslie prospects with sound work over 1200m in 1:22.6, 1:08.2 and 39.8. Meteoric Lass (Roustoby), an entry for Woodville and Tauranga later in the week, was also impressive in her solo work over 1000m in 1:08.5 and 39.8, while Ellerslie entry Master Painton (Turner) did well over the same distance in 1:07.9 and 39.2.

Te Akau juveniles Cool Aza Beel (T Harris) and Press Baron (McNab) were well matched over 800m in 54.8 and 39.3. Cool Aza Beel, unbeaten after three trials and one raceday outing, runs in the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham, while Press Baron, the winner of his only two trials, will make his debut at Ellerslie.

Tiptronic (Wratten) and Vichy (T Johnson), both entered for Ellerslie, got through 1200m in 1:23.2, 1:08.5 and 40.6. Supera (Coleman), a rival for Tiptronic in the Ellerslie open sprint, covered the same distance in 1:23.2, 1:08 and 40.3. Ellerslie maiden entry Dragon Leap (Grylls) was strong at the end of his work with Andoyas (Yanagida) over 1000m in 1:06.5 and 38.4.

Trentham entry Burgundy Rose (A Jones) and Penteverest (Winter), who resumes at Ellerslie, were paired in smart work over 1000m in 1:09.2 and 38.6. Mazzuro (McNab) and Savy Yong Blonk (T Harris) left 1200m behind in 1:21.4 and 39.4, while Te Akau Dragon (McNab) and Byzantine (Burdan) returned 1:23.3 and 39.6, Katie Perrie (R Jones) 1:22.3 and 41.8, and In A Twinkling (McNab) 1:22.5 and 41.

Let’s Rock (Tynan) and Serious Walk (Grylls) prepared for Tauranga on Friday over 1000m in 1:06.5 and 40.8. Mongolian Conqueror (Burdan) ran the same trip in 1:07.6 and 40.5, while Atomic Kitten (A Jones) and Nothing Compares (Rayan) took 1:08.5 and 39.8.

Kinshasa (C Cole) ran her last 600m in 40.2, Ripley (Roustoby) was timed over 800m in 54 and 39.8, and Jakkalbomb (Lammas) was kept to 1000m in 1:11.6 and 42.2.

On the No. 2 sand Langkawi (P McKay) and Iron Eagle (S McKay) impressed over 1000m in 1:02.5 and 35.3, while Mighty Connor (Kozaki) and The Glint (S McKay) also wasted no time when recording 1:01.8 and 35.8. On the No. 1 sand Sagunto (S McKay) impressed over his last 1000m in 1:00.4 and 36.2.
