Exciting three-year-old Dragon Leap looked ready for the step up to stakes company this weekend when he galloped impressively at Matamata.

On the plough Dragon Leap (Yanagida) was partnered by stablemate Cia Siu Bao (Kozaki) in a solid 1000m hitout, running the distance in 1:02 and finishing off with 600m in 36.2. It was very good work and indicated the O’Sullivan/Scott-trained gelding is ready to follow up on his impressive debut performance when he lines up in Saturday’s Trevor Eagle Memorial at Ellerslie.

Joe’s Legacy (T Harris) also drew attention to his Ellerslie prospects as he and Mazzuro (A Jones) cut out a solid 1200m in 1:18.2, with the last 1000m in 1:02.6 and 600m in 35.8. The pair are rivals in Saturday’s R72 2100.

Recent smart maiden graduate Highlighter (C Grylls) went solo in decent work, 800m in 49.2 and 600m in 35.7. She steps up to Rating 65 grade at Ellerslie. Promising juvenile Bordeaux le Rouge (T Harris) was paired with Equinox (A Jones) over 1000m in 1:03, quickening attractively over the final 600m in 35.9.

On the course proper, which was good 23 metres out, Eagle Technology Stakes entries Pinmedown (Lammas) and Livvy Lass (Coleman) were paired over 1000m in 1:06, finishing off strongly for a final section in 36.8. Lily d’Or (Lammas), who returns from a let-up this weekend, was paired with Wanganui candidate Sunburst (Fawcett) over 1200m in 1:23.4, 1:06.5 and 38.2.

She’s A Goddess (McCall) worked on her own over 1000m in 1:07.4 and 39.2, while Ellerslie juvenile entries Dragon Queen (Lammas) and Targhee (McCall) cut out 800m in 54 and 38.5.

Volpe Veloce (Wratten) stretched out on the big sand, where she was timed from the 800m in 54 and the final 600m full of running in 38.5. The Graham Richardson-trained mare is in great order and is scheduled to run at next week’s Te Aroha trials.

Back on the plough Eagle Technology Stakes runner The Mitigator (S McKay) strode over the final 1000m of his work in 1:03.2 and 36.8, while Masetto (Lammas) impressed ahead of Otaki on Friday as he got through 1200m in 1:18.8, 1:04 and 35.6.

Supera (Coleman) was well contained over 1200m in 1:22, 1:07.2 and 39.8 as she continued her preparation for the Captain Cook Stakes.  Race rival Tiptronic (Wratten) was likewise kept to easy work, 1200m in 1:28.4, 1:12.6 and 43.5.

Jewel Patch (Yanagida), a runner at Wanganui on Saturday, finished off his work well over 1200m in 1:21.8, 1:05.5 and 36.4. Incantesimo (T Johnson) prepared for Ellerslie with a solo 1200m in 1:19.4, 1:04 and 37.2. Over 1000m Octave (McCall) returned 1:09.6 and 39.8, Lady Blue (Grylls) took 1:09.2 and 40.5, Blizzing Away (P Brosnan) 1:09.6 and 39.6, Limentis (Lammas) 1:11.2 and 42.2, Shake That Tush (Clements) and Marmellos (McCall) 1:11.8 and 42.6.
