Bordeaux le Rouge and Princess Kereru were paired in an impressive gallop at Matamata on Tuesday ahead of the Karaka Million meeting.
Working on a good plough, Bordeaux le Rouge (Bosson) and Princess Kereru (Lammas) cut out 1000m in 1:02.8, quickening readily for a final 600m in 36.2.
Bordeaux le Rouge, to be ridden by Craig Grylls, goes into Saturday’s Karaka Million 2YO with decent form at Ellerslie and on his trackwork is definitely in the mix. Princess Kereru was disappointing in the Railway but looks bright and should be suited by the 1400 metres of the Westbury Classic.
Last year’s Westbury Classic winner Volpe Veloce was ridden by raceday jockey Jason Waddell in smart solo work on the dead course proper, where she strode over 1200m in 1:18.4, with the last 1000m in 1:03.8 and the final section in 36.9. She is in excellent condition ahead of the weekend.
Also on the course proper, stablemate Short Fuse (Wratten) prepared for the Concorde Handicap over 1000m, steady to begin with for a time of 1:05.4 and the last 600m in 36.8. Show Boat (Coleman) prepared for Saturday’s Mr Tiz Trophy in company with Te Aroha Friday runner Sunburst (Leighton) over 1000m in 1:07.5 and 37.
Back on the plough, Ellerslie candidates Red Chois (P Turner) and Woodcote Lass (Grylls) were paired in smart work over 1000m in 1:06.5, finishing off with 600m in 36. Red Chois runs in the Concorde, while Woodcote Lass is in the Mr Tiz Trophy.
Te Aroha race rivals Leaderboard (Bosson) and Mongolianconqueror (McNab) went together over 1000m in 1:02.6 and 36.2, while Paisley Park (Waddell), another in the Te Aroha R82 2100, went with Stilton (Wratten) over 1200m in 1:16.2, 1:02.4 and 36.
Te Akau Caliburn (Bosson), who runs in the open 1600 at Te Aroha, was partnered by Up And Gone (Fawcett) over 1000m in 1:02.3 and 36.4. India (Kareem) covered 1200m in 1:18.4, 1:04.5 and 36.2, Rocket Fuel (Wratten) was timed over the same ground in 1:18.5, 1:04 and 37.1.
Unbeaten filly Levante (Winter), who runs next at Te Aroha on Friday, was given easy work over 1000m in 1:10.6 and 38.2. Holsty (C Cole) covered the same distance in 1:07 and 36.8, while Rosa Fiore (Wratten) took 1:05.2 and 38.
