The Mitigator underlined his fitness for Saturday’s Japan Trophy when he galloped impressively at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

On the No. 1 sand The Mitigator (P McKay) set off several lengths behind Watch This Space (Danis) and Bad ‘n’ Bouj (S McKay) and was timed over 1000m in 1:03.6. He made up the leeway to finish alongside his workmates with a final 600m time of 37. Watch This Space and Bad ‘n’ Bouj cut out their 1000m in 1:05 and 37.5. The Mitigator and Watch This Space are in good order for the Tauranga feature.

Race rival Scott Base (D Johnson) was also in good form when he worked on the plough with Leaderboard (Burdan), cutting out 1000m in 1:02 and 36.5. Kinshasa (Coleman) an entry for Avondale on Friday as well as Tauranga, shaped as a rapid improver as she worked over 1200m in 1:18.2, 1:02.5 and 36.5. Katie Perrie (R Jones) did similar work to record 1:18.5, 1:03.7 and 37.2.

Tauranga entries Swing Note (Kamaruddin) and Mongolian Conqueror (A Jones) were timed over their last 1000m in 1:02.2 and 36.8. Over the same ground Mazzuro (D Johnson) and Fabulous Flight (Roustoby) did well to return 1:01.8 and 36.4.

En Soie (Singh) and Rocket Fuel (T Johnson) were another pair to catch the eye over 1000m in 1:02.2 and 36, while Lethal (Burdan) and Confectionery (D Johnson) took 1:02.5 and 36.4.

Incantesimo (Singh) and La Mia Stella) prepared for Tauranga with a solid 1200m in 1:17.4, 1:02.2 and 36.5. Over the same distance Avoca Willow (M Brosnan) returned 1:21.3, 1:05.2 and 37.8, and Hosel Rocket (Reid) and Power’s That Be (Lammas) took 1:23.9, 1:07.4 and 38.

Virtuoso Lad (S Weatherley) wasn’t after time ahead of Tauranga when he strolled over 1000m in 1:10.6 and 39.8. Swiss Maid (M Brosnan) ran the same distance in 1:07.2 and 38.8, while Morning Storm (Grylls) and Take Me To The River (P Turner) took 1:10.5 and 40.2.

Back on the No. 1 sand Roc Music (Coleman) and Man of the Woods (Lammas) were paired over 1000m in 1:05.2 and 38.4. Tauranga entry Veine d’Or (Winter) looked bright when kept to easy work over 1000m in 1:13 and 39.6.
