Vainglory was right at home in the heavy conditions on the course proper at Matamata this morning ahead of Saturday’s Te Rapa meeting.

With raceday rider Michael Coleman in the saddle, Vainglory strode to the end of 1200m in 1:26.7, the last 1000m in 1:11.9 and 600m without being pressured in 42.6. The Cody Cole-trained mare was impressive in her fresh-up win over 1600m at Pukekohe and shouldn’t be fazed by the step up to 2000m this weekend.

Century-seeker Jamie Richards had a large team out on the course proper ahead of a busy weekend, with one of the most impressive in the heavy ground Rhapsody In Blue (Burdan) who shaded Man Oh Man (Durrant) after 1000m in 1:10.3 and 41.4.

Fellow Te Rapa entries Charmaine’s Dream (Bosson) and Brymaar (de Oca) cut out 800m in 56.8 and 41.4, Quattro Katie (Burdan) and Vino Bella (A Jones) clocked 56.3 and 41.5, while over 1000m O’Connor (Bosson) and Cicciolina (de Oca) returned 1:11 and 41.5, and Shebuysmerubies (Durrant) and O’Pristine (Kamaruddin) 1:16 and 42.2.

Codecracker (Coleman) and Born To Fight (Lammas) did sound work for Te Rapa when cutting out 1000m in 1:09.5 and 40.8. Ali Baba (Dellow) looked in forward condition for the weekend in solo work over 1200m in 1:26.6, 1:12.1 and 42.8.

Livvy Lass (Lammas) prepared for the weekend with smart work in company with Iridessa (S McKay) over 1000m in 1:11.6 and 41.7. Stablemates She’s A Goddess (C Ormsby) and Tiny Terror (Lammas) ran the same distance in 1:16 and 41.4.

Garnet (Wratten) completed his work impressively in company with Vichy (Kiel) over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 42. Bak Da Master (Roustoby) and Al Haram (M Grylls) were paired in solid work over 1200m in 1:22.5, 1:08.3 and 41.7, while Richard Of Yorke (C Thornton) followed with a similar hitout. The Richards-trained trio run in highweight grade at Awapuni on Saturday.

Yamuna (Newman) looked ready for the weekend as she shaded Lalone (Pinn) after a solidly-run 1200m in 1:21.6, 1:07 and 40.6. Two more in the Daniel Miller team, Tumbarumba (Pinn) and React (Newman), completed 1000m on terms in 1:10.8 and 40.5.

Livin’ On A Prayer (W Hillis) was in good form over 1000m in 1:10.8 and 41.6, while Belle Folly (Burr) and an Atlante gelding (Fawcett) quickened from the 600m to run 1000m in 1:15.2 and 43.6. In similar work Please Tell Rosie (P Singh) and Alchemia (Coleman) covered their final 600m in 43.4.

On the sand Easy M’Lady (S Collett) was in dashing form over 1000m in 1:03 and 37.2. The Vicki Prendergast-trained mare returns from a long layoff at Te Rapa.

Elliot Power (M Brosnan) prepared for Te Rapa with 1000m in 1:05.8 and 37, Leicalot (M Brosnan) ran the same trip in 1:08 and 40.2, while Uncle Terry (Danis) returned 1:12.2 and 40.8.

Over 800m Iron Eagle (S McKay) and Cutting Edge (S Collett) took 58.4 and 41.6, and Roc Music (Cox) and Dubai Lady (Coleman) 57.8 and 42.6.
