Three-year-old stablemates Miss Aotearoa and Yourpoint drew attention to their Hastings prospects with impressive work at Matamata this morning.
Galloping on the plough, Gold Trail Stakes runner Miss Aotearoa (Bosson) shaded Tarzino Trophy favourite Avantage (D Johnson) at the end of a strongly run 1000m in 1:02.2 and 600m in 36.4.
Miss Aotearoa has obviously trained on well from her fresh-up win at Taupo a month ago and will be an interesting runner up against a smart fillies’ field on Saturday. While trainer Jamie Richards admitted to expecting more from Avantage, he remains satisfied that the Foxbridge Plate winner has made the necessary progress ahead of the season’s first Group One race.
Yourpoint (Bosson) looked a definite improver from his first-up effort when he led Top Brass (D Johnson) after 1000m in 1:01.8 and 36. Yourpoint runs in the El Roca Trophy at Hastings.
The Mitigator (S McKay) continued his Tarzino Trophy preparation with a solo gallop, timed from the 800m in 49.6 and completing the last 600m readily in 36.8. Race rival Germanicus (Leighton) was unextended in tidy work over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 39.8.
Tarzino Trophy candidates Supera and Pinmedown did their work on the course proper, where the going was dead 20 metres out. Supera (D Johnson), who will now be ridden by Rosie Myers at Hastings, strode over the last 1000m of her work in 1:04.7 and 37.8. Pinmedown (Lammas) was paired with Salt Bay (McCall) over a well-run 1000m in 1:03.9 and 36.8.
Stablemate Tokorangi (Lammas) prepared for the Gold Trail Stakes when shading Petrachor (McCall) at the end of 1000m in 1:05.5 and 36.9. Hawke’s Bay Hurdle entry Ali Baba (Dellow) was sent over ground, with his last 1200m in 1:20.9, 1:06.4 and 38.8.
Back on the plough, Yearn (S Weatherley) looked sharp for her resuming run at Ruakaka as she cut out 1000m in 1:04.8 and 36.2. Hastings entries Katie Perrie (S Collett) and Americo (S McKay) did smart work over 1000m in 1:03.4 and 35.9, while Yamuna (Newman) also did well over the same trip in 1:03 and 36.1.
Hastings special maiden entry Vamos Bebe (D Johnson) caught the eye over 1000m in 1:02.4 and 36.2, Our Alley Cat (S Collett) and Western Girl (C Cole) returned 1:03.6 and 36, and Roll The Gold (Fawcett) and Je Suis Tiger (Kumar) wasted no time running their 1000m in 1:02.6 and 36.6.
Savvy Yong Blonk (T Harris) looked ready for a big effort at Hastings when she got through 1200m in 1:17.9, 1:02.5 and 36.8. Hawke’s Bay Hurdle entry Tommyra (R Cole) strode over ground and was timed from the 1200m in 1:21.8 and 37.
Romantic Lady (D Johnson) and Awareness (Roustoby) went together over 1000m in 1:03.7 and 36.8, while Burgundy Belle (T Harris) was well held in 1:06.3 and 37.8.
On the No. 1 sand Sagunto (S Collett) prepared for Hastings with solid work, his last 1000m in 1:01.8 and 36.6.
