Avantage turned around her trackwork from two weeks ago when she led fellow class racemare Melody Belle in a testing hitout at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

With significant overnight rain continuing into the session, conditions were far from ideal. Windsor Park Plate entries were allowed use of the inside section of the course proper, while the majority of grass gallops took place on the heavier footing 18 metres out.

Avantage (Bosson) and Melody Belle (T Harris) set off at a decent clip to run 1200m in 1:15.9, 1000m in 1:02.4 and the final 600m 37.6. Avantage, whose corresponding gallop ahead of the Tarzino Trophy had been below par, was clearly superior this time. Both Jamie Richards-trained mares look very well and pulled up satisfactorily from their work.

Stablemate Prise de Fer (Bosson) worked by himself, away steadily from the 1200m mark to run the distance in 1:20.8 before picking up momentum for 1000m in 1:03.2 and 600m impressively in 37.2.

Pinmedown, with raceday rider Ryan Elliot up, also went solo in her Windsor Park Plate work, striding over 1200m in 1:19.8, 1000m in 1:05 and hitting the line well after a final 600m in 37.6. Race rival Germanicus (C Ormsby) was strong over the final stages of his work but was not timed.

Tarzino Trophy runner-up Supera (Winter) worked satisfactorily on the main galloping strip, where she covered her last 1000m in 1:08.2 and 600m in 40. She has trained on well from her bold fresh-up performance.

Hawke’s Bay Guineas favourite Need I Say More (T Harris) was paired with No Limits (Bosson) in well-held work over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 40.6. Grand Gesture (Miller), who steps up to the Hawke’s Bay Guineas after his debut win last week, went with La Romanee (Pinn) over 800m in 57.8 and 600m in 42.6.

Tiptronic (C Ormsby) wore blinkers in his work over 1200m in 1:27.4, 1:12 and 42.2. He will have his Livamol Classic lead-up over 1600m at Te Rapa on Friday. Race rival Glory Days (P Turner) strode over the last 1000m of her work in 1:08.6 and 40.7. The Auckland Cup winner is temporarily with the Autridge/Shailer stable while in the north for stud service.

Rangitata (Kareem) and Kelly Renee (C Grylls) went together over 1000m in 1:09 and 40.6, while Masetto (Elliot) ran the same trip in 1:08.5 and 40.4, and Festivity (Bosson) and Pinultimate (T Harris) took 1:07.3 and 40.8.

Tommyra (R Cole), preparing for Ellerslie on Sunday, went over ground, picking up Teen Titan (Kareem) to cover 1200m in 1:25.4, 1:09.9 and 42.7. Azabeat (Danis) and Livin On A Prayer (Miles) strode through 1200m in 1:24.5, 1:10 and 42.4, while Chia Siu Bao (Hepi) and Amano (Yanagida) returned 1:23.4, 1:09.l5 and 41.2.

Caliburn (Burdan) and Challa (Montes de Oca) were timed over 1000m in 1:08 and 40.6. Katie Perrie (R Jones) wasn’t extended over 1000m in 1:11.4 and 42. Run For Cover (Elliot) and Gus The Maverick (McCall) were not after time over the same ground in 1:15.5 and 44.6.
