Savy Yong Blonk confirmed favouritism for Saturday’s Waikato Cup with impressive work at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

Galloping on a dead plough, Savy Yong Blonk (D Johnson) strode boldly over 1200m in 1:19, finishing off with 600m in 36.6. Savy Yong Blonk has trained on well since her unlucky second in the Counties Cup.

Supera (D Johnson) encouraged hopes of an improved showing in Saturday’s Cal Isuzu Stakes when she ran a solo 1000m in 1:02.5 and 35.8. Candid Camera (Fawcett) and Son Of Bielski (T Harris) looked on target for their Te Rapa engagements as they ran 1000m in 1:02.2 and 36.

Burgundy Rose (Kamaruddin) and Romantic Lady (Roustoby) were also in good form ahead of the weekend when cutting out the same distance in 1:01.8 and 36.3. Brando (Bosson), who will be entered for Te Rapa and Awapuni, went with Tauranga Friday entry Garbo (Durrant) over a well-run 1000m in 1:02.9 and 36.4. Limentis (C Grylls), another for Tauranga, cut out 1000m in 1:04.6 and 36.5, and Watch This Space (Miles) and Livin On A Prayer (Garwood) took 1:03.8 and 37.4.

Levante (S Collett) was not chasing time as she breezed over 1000m in 1:14.2 and 42.8, Prince Kato (McCall) returned 1:11.4 and 40.2, and Our Alley Cat (Cox) was timed from the 600m in 43.2.

On the course proper, which was dead with the markers set at 28 metres and work took place right-handed, Dragon Queen (Dellow) pushed her case for a start in the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni as she and Amazing Maria (McCall) left 1200m behind in 1:23.8 and 38.

Te Rapa-bound juveniles Medal (T Harris) and Sword Of State (Bosson) looked smart finishing their work with 600m in 37.2, while Lavaglo (Pinn) and Castani (Miller) also did well to record 36.8.

Tauranga runners Bubalina (McCall) and Wasp (Dellow) maintained a strong gallop over 1200m in 1:21.7, with their final 600m in 36.9. Waikato Cup candidate Pin Me Down (Dellow) went with last-start winner Tia d’Or (S Collett) over 1200m, beginning steadily to run the trip in 1:27 and finishing off with 600m in 39.

In similar work, Paisley Park (S Collett) prepared for the Waikato Cup with 1200m in 1:25.7 and 39.2, while Corinne (P Singh) and Please Tell Rosie (Danis) took 1:23.2 and 37.9.

Last season’s champion two-year-old Cool Aza Beel (Bosson) made a welcome sight as he completed his work with 600m in 39.3. On the No. 1 sand Bad ‘N’ Bouj (S McKay) and Wolfgang (S Collett) did sound work ahead of their Te Rapa engagements, cutting out 1000m in 1:04 and 36.2.
