Karaka Million contendors were the centre of attention at Matamata this morning along with those set to contest support races on Saturday’s big Ellerslie twilight card.

On the plough, leading Karaka Million 3YO Classic prospect Amarelinha (Bosson) was paired with race rival Supreme Khan (T Harris) over 1200m in 1:19.2, the last 1000m in 1:03.8 and quickening impressively for a final 600m in 36.8. Both Jamie Richards-trained three-year-olds are in good order for their weekend assignment.

Karaka Million 2YO fancy On The Bubbles (Bosson) went with Almanzor Trophy entry Need I Say More (T Harris) over a well-run 1000m in 1:03.2 and 36.2. Lisa Allpress made the trip north to partner her Karaka Million 2YO mount Avonallo in his work with race rival Sophisticardo (T Harris) over 1000m, cutting out the trip in 1:04 and 36.7.

Westbury Classic rivals Levante (S Collett) and Karalino (C Grylls) were well matched over 1000m in 1:03.8 and 36.2. Levante has made pleasing progress since her luckless Railway third, while Karalino looks improved for her recent fresh-up run.

Concorde Handicap entry Sheezallmine (Miller) had the measure of Contribute (Pinn) at the end of 1000m in 1:03.2 and 36.4, while Princess Rihana (Yuto) prepared for the feature Ellerslie sprint over the same ground in 1:03.5 and 36.1.

Another Concorde entry, Entriviere (D Johnson), did smart solo work over 1000m in 1:01.2 and 36.4, Karaka Million 3YO entry Perfect Scenario (Roustoby) cut out the same trip in 1:03.8 and 36.8, and Almanzor Trophy candidate Cadeau (S Collett) went with Trentham weekend entry Vino Bella (Kamaruddin) over a sound 1000m in 1:02.8 and 36.2.

In A Twinkling (Bosson) travelled strongly over ground, with his last 1200m in 1:19.4, 1:04 and 38.8. Festivity (Allpress) and Romantic Lady (D Johnson) ran a steady 1000m together in 1:05.6 and 37.8, as did Rocket Fuel (Pinn) and Bahir Emerald (S Singh) in 1:07.5 and 37.4.

On the course proper, where the going was dead 14 metres out, On The Rocks (McCall) worked well in blinkers over 1200m in 1:17.8, 1:03 and 35.9. He runs in the Karaka Cup on Saturday.

Karaka Million 3YO entry Screamin Eagle (Fawcett) went with Arraignment (Fawcett) over a well-run 1000m in 1:03.3 and 36.2., while Roch ’N’ Horse Allpress) and Pipsqueak Rose (McCall) wasted no time over the same distance in 1:03.6 and 35.8.

Dragon Queen (Yanagida) worked well ahead of the Karaka Million 3YO when she and Grip (Allpress) covered 1000m in 1:07.6 and 37.5. Lightning Field (Bosson) and Navalha (D Johnson) completed 1000m in 1:07.9 and 38.8, while Qiji Swordsman (S Collett) took 1:04.2 and 38.1.

Back on the plough, Westbury Classic entry Our Alley Cat (Cox) was restricted to 1000m in 1:13.8 and 42.2. Noverre (Bosson) and Polly Plumb (D Johnson) also had an easy time over 1000m in 1:07.5 and 39, while Kinshasa (C Cole) recorded 1:08.2 and 38.3.

Diamond Delight (S Collett) and Amazing Maria (McCall) got through 1200m in 1:22, 1:06.4 and 37.8. Miracle’s Happen (Tynan) left 1000m behind in 1:04.2 and 37.2, Launch Pad (P Singh) and Please Tell Rosie (Fawcett) took 1:04.2 and 37.3, Siracusa (S Collett) and Blushing Beauty (S Collett) 1:04.7 and 37.8, and Just One Princess (Yuto) 1:07.6 and 38.6. Dubai Lady (S Collett) was timed over her last 800m in 55.6 and 40.8.

Dennis Ryan
