In a relatively quiet session, New Plymouth feature race entries Quattro Quinta and Lily’s Lady shaped up well when paired in smart work at Matamata this morning.
On the plough, Quattro Quinta (Bosson) and Lily’s Lady (C Grylls) had pace on throughout 1000m in 1:02.8, finishing off with a final 600m in 36.2. Quattro Quinta, who will be Jamie Richards’ only starter this weekend when he lines up in the Woburn Farm 2YO Classic, has trained on well from his Wellesley Stakes win. The Autridge/Shailer-trained Lily’s Lady is still a maiden but in the same form as her last-start second in the Royal Stakes, she will be tough to beat in the FastTrack Insurance Oaks Prelude.
Wolfgang (S McKay), runner-up to Quattro Quinta at Trentham and a rival again on Saturday, worked on the No. 2 sand with Kodak (Kamaruddin) over a soundly-run 1000m in 1:04.2 and 37. The centre’s third 2YO Classic entry, Ima Roca Bee (McCall), cut out 1000m in 1:04.6 and 36.8. The Karyn McQuade-trained filly makes her debut on Saturday but has shown real promise with two trial wins.
Back on the plough, Taranaki Cup entry Paisley Park (Wratten) worked well over ground with Vichy (S Singh), timed over the last 1200m in 1:20.8, 1000m in 1:04.3 and 600m in 36.8. Vichy runs in the Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes at Tauherenikau on Monday.
Stablemate Carolina Reaper (K Singh), an impressive last-start winner entered for the Oaks Prelude, was paired with Ali Arc (Wratten) over a solid 1200m in 1:20.4, 1:04.8 and 37.1. New Plymouth entry Arraignment (Leighton) went with Germanicus (Fawcett) over 1000m in 1:04.2 and 36.6, Star Of Bombay (T Harris) ran the same trip in an unextended 1:08.8 and 39.3, and in similar work Easy M’Lady (Cox) took 1:07.2 and 38.6.
Please Tell Rosie (P Singh) caught the eye over 1000m in 1:04.5 and 36.2. Oh To Be (Wratten) and Sovereignty (S Singh) were paired over 1200m in 1:21.6, 1:05.5 and 37.2.
Levante (S Collett) and Les Crayeres (Winter) both looked very well ahead of next week’s big Te Rapa meeting when they strolled over 1000m in 1:14.2 and 43.5. Silverdale Chief (C Grylls) got through easy work over 1000m in 1:13.2 and 42.5, while Polar Night (S Collett) took 1:13.4 and 43. Craving (Bosson) was timed from the 800m in 55.6 and 40.5.
