Je Suis Tiger and Roll The Gold took time honours during a Tuesday morning trackwork session when heavy fog prevented the recording of most gallops.
Working right-handed wide out on a dead course proper, Je Suis Tiger (Fawcett) and Roll The Gold (Kumar) kept up a strong gallop over 1200m in 1:22.7, with their final 600m in a very respectable 38.8. The Gary Hennessy-trained pair are both entered for 1400m races at Ellerslie on Saturday, with Je Suis Tiger down to run in the open sprint and Roll The Gold in Rating 74 grade.
Sweet Molly Malone (Newman) also impressed over 1200m in 1:21.2 and 40.6, finishing off well after being keen in the early stages. The Cody Cole-trained mare has made good progress since her last-start win and will be entered for both Ellerslie and Wanganui.
Voler Pour Moi (Yanagida) prepared for Saturday’s open middle-distance race at Ellerslie with 1200m in 1:26.4, appearing to complete her task well with no sectional time possible. The same applied to race rival Paisley Park (Wratten), who ran his 1200m in 1:28.9.
The only other course proper gallop that could be timed was Easy M’Lady (S Weatherley) and Hola Senorita (Barnes), who cut out the last 600m of their 1000m hitout in 40.2. Easy M’Lady will drop back in class for her Rating 74 assignment at Ellerslie on Monday.
Others to catch the eye without being timed included smart two-year-old Iffshecan, who worked with Ellerslie maiden stayers’ candidate Fort William ahead of her Castletown Stakes bid at Wanganui on Saturday.
Ellerslie three-year-old sprint rivals Escudo and Miracle’s Happen were paired in what looked like sound work, while Ellerslie entry Devotioninmotion went with Angelica over 1000m, likewise travelling well over the final stages.
