Dragon Leap and Karman Line starred during a busy Tuesday morning session at Matamata as they prepared for Saturday’s big Te Rapa meeting.
Galloping 20 metres out on a slow course proper, Dragon Leap (C Grylls) and Karman Line (Yuto) were impressive in their 1000m hitout, running the distance in 1:03.2 and finishing off with 600m in 36.8.
It was exceptional work that signalled Dragon Leap’s readiness for Saturday’s J Swap Sprint. The talented galloper has not raced since finishing fifth in the Tarzino Trophy in September but has the class to figure in the 1400m feature. Highly promising filly Karman Line was a late scratching on Saturday due to the deteriorating track conditions and will line up in the Rating 65 1400 at Te Rapa.
Horses preparing for the rescheduled Captain Cook Stakes also drew attention. Prise de Fer (Bosson) was not asked for a lot after his trip to Trentham, striding over 1200m in 1:20.8, with the last 1000m in 1:04.6 and 600m in 38.3.
The same applied to Harlech (Lammas), who covered 1200m in 1:25.5, 1:09.3 and 39.5, while stablemate On The Rocks (Lammas) ran the same distance in 1:22.3, 1:07 and 38.6. Another additional Captain Cook Stakes runner, Tiptronic (S Singh), left 1200m behind in 1:19.5, 1:05.8 and 38.5. Brando (Bosson), who will run in the Swap Sprint, was well held over 1000m in 1:08.4 and 38.3.
Communique (B Grylls) and Needle And Thread (C Grylls) prepared for Te Rapa with 1000m in 1:05.6 and 37.8, while Cal Isuzu Stakes entry Mai Tai (Durrant) got into her work over the same distance in 1:04.6 and 37.2. Arjay’s Flight (Yanagida) strode over ground and was timed from the 1200m in 1:24.6, 1:09.4 and 40.2.
Miss Aotearoa (T Harris) was strong at the end of 1000m in 1:08.8 and 38.6. Te Rapa entries Champagne Princess (S Weatherley) and La Velocita (Dowling) cut out 1000m in 1:06.9 and 39. Te Rapa entry Tevere (Lammas) was paired with Dragon Queen (Yanagida) over 1000m in 1:04.8 and 37, good time later in the session. Maison Roxanne (Leighton) cut out 1000m in 1:05.8 and 38, Golden Kiwi (Sanson) and Alpino (Lammas) took 1:06.4 and 38.6, The Mighty Spar (A Jones) and Nossenko (Amit) 1:04.8 and 37.6, Hovdamer (Newman) and Ardour (Yanagida) 1:07.3 and 37.5, Ali Arc (Wratten) and Poser (K Singh) 1:05.1 and 38.4, and Leica Star (Parmar) and Charmander (Amit) 1:07.5 and 37.7.
On The Bubbles (Bosson), who resumes in the three-year-old sprint at Te Rapa, went with Sophisticardo (Parmar) over 1000m in 1:07 and 38.2. Zaffiro Belle (Wratten) and Red Hussar (Kamaruddin) ran the same distance in 1:08.8 and 38.2, Lightning Field (Parmar) and Deceptive (Sumat) clocked 1:08 and 39.8, Lord Painton (C Grylls) 1:07.5 and 39, Perfect Scenario (Roustoby) 1:06.5 and 38.2, and Naval Fleet (S Weatherley) 1:05.8 and 38.6.
Over 800m Need I Say More (Parmar) and Mohaka Brave (Amit) returned 53.4 and 37.9, Entriviere (Durrant) 56.3 and 40.8, and Wild Night (Bosson) and Taviarma (Harris) 53 and 38.2. Time Ruler (Yanagida) and Bellano (M Grylls) were timed from the 600m in 37.8.
