Dynastic and Maven Belle were well matched in a rousing gallop at Matamata on Tuesday morning as they prepared for Saturday’s Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Working on the plough, Dynastic (Bosson) and Maven Belle (Kamaruddin) had pace on throughout 1000m, cutting out the distance in 1:02.6 and hitting the line well after a final 600m in 36.2. The Te Akau stablemates have made excellent progress since their Sistema Stakes placings and will be at peak for the step up to 1400m at Awapuni.

On the course proper, where the going was dead with the markers out 25m, Tiptronic (S Singh) looked on target for the Awapuni Gold Cup when cutting out 1200m in 1:18.7. He left the final 1000m behind in 1:04 but due to poor light no 600m split was possible. Stablemate Paisley Park (Wratten), preparing for Avondale on Saturday, did similar work to record 1:21.4 and 1:04.2.

Lingjun Xiongfeng (Lammas) and Stopalltheclocks (P Turner) were paired over 1200m in 1:23.7 and 1000m in 1:06.4. The in-form Lingjun Xiongfeng will be an interesting runner when he steps up to 2000m in Saturday’s Manawatu Classic.

Champagne Princess (Dowling) prepared for Avondale with a tidy 1000m hitout in 1:10.2 and 40.8, while those that could not be timed on the course proper included Catwalk Girl and Farrenc, who both travelled well over the final stages of their work.

Awapuni candidate Tevere (Lammas) galloped against the rail in the three-metre position, where she cut out 1000m in 1:03.5 and finished off with an impressive final 600m in 35.9.

Back on the plough Brando (Bosson), a rival for Tevere in the feature Awapuni sprint, got through his work well over 1000m in 1:04.6 and 36.5, while Prise de Fer (Parmar), who will drop back to 1400m in the same race, covered the same ground in 1:05.7 and 36.8. Cavallo Veloce (P McKay), another with the same target, ran 1000m in 1:06.2 and 36.5.

Fast Willie (Kumagai) prepared for Avondale with 1200m in 1:21.3, 1:06.7 and 38.8, while over the same ground Awapuni Gold Cup entry The Mitigator (P McKay) returned 1:22.6, 1:07 and 37.2, The Mighty Spar (T Harris) and Nossenko (Amit) took 1:18.5, 1:04.8 and 37, and Amano (C Grylls) 1:21.4, 1:05.2 and 37.6.

North Of Havana (Wratten) and Carolina Reaper (S Singh), who are entered for Awapuni and Avondale respectively, cut out an attractive 1000m in 1:05.5 and 36.4. Over the same ground On The Bubbles (Bosson) and Amalfi Prince (Parmar) recorded 1:04.2 and 37, Hovdamer (Farr) and Navalha (Parmar) 1:04.5 and 36.6, Son Of A Butcher (S Weatherley) 1:05.9 and 36.6, Extortion (C Cole) 1:06.7 and 38.8, Supreme Khan (Bosson) and Top Brass (Parmar) 1:06 and 37.2, and Paris Ruby (Farr) and Bayarmaa (C Cole) 1:05.2 and 38.

Levante (Lammas), looking well after her Melbourne trip, was well held over 1000m in 1:10.4 and 38.8. Connections have decided to proceed with a start in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes, provided the weather holds.

Stablemate Les Crayeres (Winter) strode over ground at three-quarter-pace ahead of the Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes on Friday week, as did NZ St Leger winner Leaderboard (Roshan), who runs next in the Hawke’s Bay Cup. Sword Of State (Bosson), who is booked for the Queensland winter carnival, looked bright as he breezed in from the 800m in 57.7 and 41.8.
