Catwalk Girl and So Gorgeous worked well enough at Matamata on Tuesday morning to suggest they would be capable of improved showings at Te Rapa this weekend.

Galloping 25 metres out on a soft course proper, Catwalk Girl (Yanagida) and So Gorgeous (Lammas) were together in a soundly run 1000m in 1:06.5, maintaining a strong gallop for a final 600m in 38.6.

The Kelso pair Rose Crescent (Yanagida) and Legarto (Lammas) also impressed with their work over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 38.6. Rose Crescent returns to Te Rapa on Saturday after having little luck there at her last start, while Legarto will run in the two-year-old race at Avondale next week.

Last-start Te Rapa winner Je Suis Tiger (Johansen) was doing her work well ahead of the weekend as she cut out 800m in 54.6 and 600m in 39.2. Late in the session Chancellor (Lammas) and On Fifth Ave (Yanagida) did well to run 1000m in 1:06.5 and 38.6.

Canny Man (S Weatherley) and Magic Ace (Kumagai) prepared for Te Rapa with 1000m in 1:10.5 and 39, while Myrtle Creek (Prastiyou) ran a solo 1000m in 1:07.8 and 39.7.

Due to poor light a number of course proper gallops could be timed only in part or not at all. Amongst those was Jakkalnuts (C Grylls), who appeared to handle the conditions well over 1000m in 1:09.4. Hawera Sunday candidates Challa (Kamaruddin) and Luxuriant (Amit) ran a sound 1000m in 1:08.1, and Kashock (Kareem) and Six Chouxta (S Singh) took 1:10.2.

Those that could not be timed but appeared to complete their work well included Son Of A Butcher, Luxembourg, Hovdamer, Rabada and Canadian Girl.

On the No. 2 sand, Primo Stella (Tynan) worked well ahead of Te Rapa when striding over 1200m in 1:23.6, with the last 1000m in 1:09.8 and 600m in 37.2.

Teen Titan (Samson) indicated he is coming to hand well when cutting out 1000m in 1:04.8 and 36.6. Te Rapa entry Amoramio (Lammas) was timed over her last 800m in 54.1 and 37.8, while Lingjun Hero (Yanagida) left 1000m behind in 1:05.8 and 37.2, and Able White (Kareem) took 1:10.2 and 40.8.
