Horses from the Walker/Bergerson string indicated they’re in for another big weekend when a number of them worked well at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

Galloping on the dead plough, Waikato Cup candidate Aromatic (Bosson) and Trentham entry Leaderboard (Kamaruddin) were paired in a solid hitout over ground, timed from the 1200m in 1:18.2, with the last 1000m in 1:05.4 and 600m in 38.5. Aromatic has trained on well from her Counties Cup second, while Leaderboard appears to be improved by his recent fresh-up run.

Last-start winner Campionessa (Bosson) shaped up well for the Cal Isuzu Stakes when she was paired with Tauranga Friday entry Hayate (Parmar) over 1200m in 1:23, 1:05.8 and 37.6, while Romancing The Moon (Bosson) and Alminette (Gujar) ran good time over 1000m in 1:04.8 and 36.6.

Te Rapa juvenile pair Move To Strike (Bosson) and Cognoscenti (Kamaruddin) were paired over a smart 800m in 51.2 and 36.5. I Am Invincible colt Move To Strike will be an interesting first starter after winning all three of his lead-up trials.

Tokyo Tycoon (Bosson) looked ready to resume at Te Rapa when he and Kabugee (Kamaruddin) cut out 1000m in 1:05.4 and 37.2, while race rival Quintessa (Bosson) hit out well with promising maiden Certainly (Gujar) over the same ground in a smart 1:04.5 and 36.6.

Te Rapa sprint rivals Aris Aris (Allen) and Cognito (Bosson) didn’t waste any time over 1000m in 1:02.6 and 36.2, nor did Glitzy Glory (Bosson) and Akenehi (Bosson) when they clocked 1:02.8 and 36.6. My Lips Are Sealed (Leighton) and Vivacious (S Weatherley) prepared for Trentham’s Eulogy Stakes over 1000m in 1:04.6 and 37.4.

Te Rapa entry Channel Surfer (Kareem) got through sound solo work over ground, timed from the 1200m in 1:21.2, 1:05 and 37.5. Our Alley Cat (Cox) looked in tune for Te Rapa as she cut out 1000m in 1:05.6 and 37.5, while Kingfisher (Rastrick) did well over the same ground in 1:03.2 and 36.7.

Complicate (Hillis) and Text Regrets (Kamaruddin) worked well over 1000m in 1:05.4 and 37.2, Extortion (Prastiyou) and Renegade Rebel (Harris) clocked 1:04.9 and 37.4, and Candy Cane (G Singh) and Choose ’Em Big (Fawcett) took 1:06.8 and 37.8.

NZ 1000 Guineas winner Molly Bloom (Rastrick) looked bright in easy work over 1000m in 1:12.8 and 43.6, Asterix (Farr) likewise as he clocked 1:16.2 and 45.8, and Dragon Leap (Rastrick) over 800m in 1:00.2 and 43.5.

Tauranga entries State Affair (Kareem) and Short (Goindasamy) strode over 1200m in 1:21.6, 1:05.4 and 38.8. Hayley (Mullineaux) was well held over 1000m in 1:09.8 and 37.6, while Kith ’N’ Kin (Melvin) and About Last Night (Bosson) had more pace on over 800m in 49.8 and 36.4.

On the course proper, which was soft 30 metres out, Te Rapa runners Tevere (Mullineaux) and Pendragon (Parmar) were well matched over 1000m in 1:09.2 and 39.6. Madam Le Fay (Mullineaux) ran a strong solo 1200m in 1:24.2, 1:07.7 and 38.6, Skipping (Sima) and Thatsallshewrote (Mullineaux) left 1000m behind in 1:07.2 and 39, and Why Not Me (Mullineaux) and My Own Beat (Sima) took 1:11.8 and 41.5.

On the No. 1 sand Legarto (Turner) was allowed to stretch out over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 39. The classy four-year-old looks very well in the build-up to summer features.

Tauranga entry Gingerbread (Prendergast) left 1000m behind in 1:06.4 and 38.3, and Trentham-bound Wolfgang (S McKay) worked well when leading Final Impact (Kamaruddin) at the end of 1000m in 1:04.6 and 37.8.
