Wanganui Guineas candidates Unbridled Joy and Social Climber shaped up well for Saturday’s three-year-old feature when they galloped on the Matamata course proper on Tuesday morning.

Most work took place 20 metres on the heavy course proper, where Unbridled Joy (Bosson) was partnered by Dimitra (Butler) over 1000m in 1:09.5 and 600m in 39.6. Unbridled Joy was a stakes-placed winner in a light two-year-old campaign and after a lead-up trial could well make his presence felt in Saturday’s 1200m feature. Dimitra is a maiden in the Cody Cole stable set to run at next Wednesday’s local meeting.

Social Climber (Fawcett) prepared for the Wanganui Guineas with well-held work in company with Volunteer (Kareem), cutting out 1000m in 1:12.3 and finishing off with 600m in 42. Social Climber has made pleasing progress since her debut win at Rotorua a month ago, while stablemate Volunteer is another being aimed at next week’s local meeting.

Caitlyns Wish (Sanson) looked on target for the open sprint at Wanganui when she cut out 1000m in 1:11.8 and 41.4. She won her only two starts at Wanganui last season and is in good order for her attempt at another on the River City course.

Race rival Martell also got through 1000m well with trainer Jim Collett in the saddle, recording 1:11.6 and 41.5. His races have been carefully spaced with good results and is sitting on a hat-trick ahead of his first start for a month.

To Bravery Born (Bosson) and Purple Prose (Parmar) worked well over 1000m in 1:10.2, finished off with 600m in 40.6. Snitzel colt To Bravery Born, who has been placed in his only trial, will be the first member of the potent Te Akau juvenile team to line up when he heads to Wanganui on Saturday.

The talented Cody Cole-trained pair Navigator (Turner) and Oneira (Harris) shaped up well over 1000m in 1:10.6 and 41.8, while stablemate Chloe’s Comet (Butler) was keen in the early stages of her 1000m hitout, recording 1:10.4 and slowing up to complete the last 600m in 43.8.

Lux Libertas (Rastrick) looked bright when getting through easy work, timed from the 800m in 1:01.9 and 45.8, while stablemate Grail Seeker (Tynan) was also well contained as she strolled over 1000m in 1:17.4 and 45.2.
