Pericles and Fall For Cindy shaped up for weekend engagements with sound work at Matamata on Tuesday morning.
Galloping 14 metres out on the good course proper, Pericles (Rastrick) and Fall For Cindy (Nishizuka) were timed over 1200m in 1:23.6, picking up speed as they went for a final 1000m in 1:07.5 and 600m 37.4. The Pam Gerard-trained pair completed their work full of running, with Pericles set to line up on Saturday in the open 1300m at Ellerslie, where he has run some of his best races, and Fall For Cindy stepping up to a middle-distance in the Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes at Wanganui.
 

Most other fast work place on the plough, where Grande Gallo (Tynan), a rival for Pericles at Ellerslie, cut out a tidy 1000m in 1:04.6 and 600m in 37.2. The Wexford Stables mare has made good progress since her win at Tauranga last week and also has a good record at Ellerslie.

Last-start Ellerslie winner Francee (Bosson) prepared for her return there on Saturday with sound work alongside Bella Voce (Amin) over 1000m in 1:05.6 and 37.2. Stablemate Insatiable (Bosson) prepared for Ellerslie a smart 1000m in 1:03.4 and 36.8, while Peerless (Tynan) and Washi (L Singh) also shaped up well over the same distance in 1:05.2 and 38.8.
Promising filly Fosse (Ritchie) got through her work over 1000m in 1:03.2 and 36.8. Luminance (K Pertab) and Pistol Whip (Parmar) also wasted no time over 1000m in 1:03.6 and 36.6, while Wanganui entry Did The Trick (Hillis) took 1:04.8 and 37.2.

Ellerslie entry Sorghaghtani (Garcia) and Lady Grey (Wratten) recorded 1:21.4 for 1200m with the last 1000m in 1:07.6 and 600m in 38.4. Also over ground, Jolted (Turner) left 1200m behind in 1:27.8, 1:11 and 41.8, and Wild Night (Bosson) and Altari (Sheehan) returned 1:20.2, 1:04.8 and 37.5. Altari is entered for the three-year-old 1500m at Ellerslie this weekend, while Wild Night is being aimed at the Manco Easter later in the month.

The Cody Cole-trained pair Latrelle (Harris) and Astoria Brooke (Turner) looked in good form their Ellerslie weekend engagements as they cut out 1200m in 1:19.6, 1:04.2 and 37.8, while stablemates Secret Life (McCall) and Luna Star (Grace) left 1000m behind in 1:05.3 and 38.2.

Lucky Coral (Grace) was paired with The Prophet (K Pertab) over 1200m in 1:19.8, 1:04.6 and 37. Scouser (Harris) was timed over 1000m in 1:07.4 and 40, Suited And Booted (R Cole) was well held over the same ground in 1:09.5 and 39.6, while Phantom Dragon (Nishizuka) took 1:11.8 and 41.
