Smart Love and Woman In Charge looked on target for weekend engagements when they galloped soundly at Matamata on Tuesday morning.
Further rain made for less than ideal conditions, with course proper gallops taking place 20 metres out where the going was very heavy.
Smart Love (Farr) was paired with Woman In Charge (L Singh) over 1000m, completing the distance in 1:11.2 and finishing off with 600m in 41.2. Smart Love has pleased connections with the progress she has made since her impressive fresh-up win at Te Rapa last month and she should cope with the rise in grade to Rating 75 at Rotorua on Saturday. Woman In Charge returns to Taupo on Friday off the back of a debut second there last month.
Hostility (Bosson) and High Roller (Colgan) were in form ahead of their respective maiden assignments at Taupo when they cut out 1000m in 1:06.8 and 39.2. Promising three-year-olds Yamato Satono (Loki) and General Menari (Tynan) also got through their work well over 1000m in 1:11.5 and 41.4.
Grail Seeker (P Singh), an entry for the Sweynesse Stakes at Rotorua on Sunday, wasn’t after time as she worked solo over 1000m in 1:13.5 and 41.8. Taupo open sprint rivals Wild Night (Colgan) and Captured By Love (Bosson) went together over 1000m in 1:09.2 and 39.6.
Vendabelle (Turner) and Litteral (Fawcett) prepared for their respective Taupo and Rotorua engagements with 1000m in 1:12.2 and 40.8. Channel Surfer (Wratten) and Volunteer (Holliday) ran the same distance in 1:11.2 and 41.9.
Tenfoot Tall (Boyack), who heads to Otaki on Saturday, managed the conditions well as he made good time over 1000m in 1:08.5 and 40.6. Gold Currency (K Pertab) and Mr Catamarca (L Pertab) left 1000m behind in 1:10.4 and 40.8.
Sicillian (Tynan) and High Society (Mullineaux) covered 1000m in 1:11.8 and 41.5. Captain Roy (Farr) did well over the same trip in 1:09.4 and 40.2, as did Yousito (Parmar) and Principled (Sandeep) in 1:09.6 and 40.5.
Waitak (P Singh) looked bright as he continued his preparation for next week’s Livamol Classic with striding work over 1000m in 1:16.8. He has trained on well since his Howden Mile win.
Fellow Livamol Classic candidate Legarto (Winter) did similar work on the No. 1 sand, competing two steady rounds with 1000m in 1:12.7 and 42.5.
On the same surface, Giacomo (Fawcett) prepared for Taupo with 1000m in 1:07.2 and 38.6, while American Woman (Romero) and Rebel Creek (Holliday) ran the same trip in 1:10.2 and 39.4.
