New Zealand 1000 Guineas candidates Lollapalooza and Belle Cheval looked on target for Saturday’s Riccarton classic when they did their final serious work at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

Galloping on the plough, Lollapalooza (Fawcett) was paired with Zacabasso (Wratten) over 1200m in 1:23.8, the last 1000m in 1:07 and 600m in 37.8. Lollapalooza has trained on well from her Soliloquy Stakes run three weeks ago and should be suited to the step up to 1600m on the roomy Riccarton track.

Belle Cheval, who was so impressive when clearing maiden grade at Ellerslie at her last start, was ridden by raceday jockey Opie Bosson when she and War Of Succession (Hassman) cut out 1200m in 1:20.5, the last 1000m in 1:05.7 and the final 600m in a smart 36.8.

Captured By Love (Bosson) prepared for Saturday’s Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes at Riccarton in company with Pukekohe entry Age Of Discovery (Hassman) over 1000m in 1:05 and 37.6.

I’munstoppable (L Singh), who cruised home in the black-type trial at Pukekohe last week, indicated she had trained on well for Saturday’s feature sprint at the same venue when cutting out 1000m in 1:06.8 and 36.8. Over the same distance Pukekohe entries Loch Katrine (Fawcett) and Perugia (Sanson) did well to return 1:03.2 and 36.6.

Others to catch the eye ahead of Pukekohe included Atmospheric (Harris) and Kind Thought (Bragg) as they cut out 1000m in 1:03.4 and 36.9. Lady Janice (S Collett) was travelling well at the end of 1200m with Mood Painter (Rastrick) in 1:28.5, 1:10.6 and 39.8.

Also over ground, Vickezzlastcall (Danis) and Luvabeel (Bosson) completed 1200m in 1:28.6, 1:11.4 and 41.8, while Fly My Wey (M Brosnan) returned 1:26.2, 1:08.8 and 39.8.

Power Of Three (Bragg) and Rareza (Harris) weren’t chasing time over 1000m in 1:08.8 and 38, while Arctic Jewel (Bosson) was also well held over the same trip in 1:10.6 and 41.2.

Others to work over 1000m included Kabugee (Corentin) and Altari (Amit) in 1:08.4 and 40.2, When Stars Align (Bosson) 1:06.8 and 39.2, and Jeeves (Reid) 1:10.8 and 42.4.

On the course proper, where the footing was good 22 metres out, Pukekohe entries Dubai Gold (Nishizuka) and Papparazzi (Parmar) hit out strongly over 1200m in 1:22.6, the last 1000m in 1:06.4 and the final 600m impressively in 37.2. Dubai Gold finished a bold fourth in I’munstoppable’s Pukekohe trial, while Papparazzi had a hitout at last week’s Taupo trials.

On the No. 1 sand, Wolfgang (S McKay) looked bright when striding over his last 1000m in 1:08.5 and 38.3. He has done everything right since his return to winning form at Te Rapa and a late entry will be made for the New Zealand Cup. Stablemates Don Pauly (S McKay) and Manorbier (Danis) left 1000m behind in 1:05.8 and 37.4.

On Monday morning, Smart Love (Tynan), who runs at Pukekohe, was paired with Woman In Charge (L Singh) over 1000m in an impressive 1:03 and 36.8. Sicilian (P Singh), another Wexford entry for Pukekohe, ran the same trip with Crackercol (Loki) in 1:03.4 and 36.6.
