MATAMATA
Te Rapa feature jumps candidates Squire and Jakama Krystal underlined their fitness ahead of the weekend with solid work at Matamata on Tuesday morning.
Galloping against the rail on a heavy course proper, Squire (J Brosnan) and Jakama Krystal (P Brosnan) worked away together from the 2000m mark and were timed from the 1200m in 1:22.4. They maintained a strong gallop throughout to record 1:06.6 for the last 1000m and 37.8 for the final 600m.
It was very good work by the Brosnan-trained pair ahead of Saturday’s features, when Squire will take a strong formline into the Waikato Hurdles and Jakama Krystal, a last-start third behind West Coast at Te Rapa last month, also looking fitter ahead of her engagement in the Waikato Steeplechase.
All other course proper gallops took place between the markers set at 23 metres. Little Bit Of Love (L Singh) and Miss Bo Peep (Leighton) prepared for the weekend with sound work over 1000m in 1:09.2, the last 600m in 39.8. Both Wexford Stables members have impressive Te Rapa track credentials and are in good order for Saturday’s open sprint.
Caitlyn’s Wish (Stumbles) and Afterglo (Sanson) also got through their work well as they prepared for Te Rapa, cutting out 1000m in 1:08.8 and 39.6. Dare To Proisir (Bosson), an entry for Sunday’s local meeting, and Wanganui two-year-old candidate Sword Of Steel (Hassman) were paired in a truly-run 1000m in 1:07.8 and 40.6.
Matamata two-year-old entries Aerial Impact (Berge) and Callidonta (Melvin) hit out well from the 800m, with their final 600m completed in 38.2. Bellezor (Burdan), another local meeting candidate, was paired with Loopy Farooki (Sandeep) over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 39.6.
Flyhalf (E Smith) and Renovation (Clapperton) prepared for their respective Wanganui and Te Rapa engagements over 1000m in 1:10.4 and 39.6. Stablemates Benerro (Clapperton) and Ploy (E Smith) were timed over the same distance in 1:09.8 and 41.5, while Viva Glam (Melvin) and Sense Of Timing (Bosson) returned 1:09.4 and 39.5.
El Viento (Bosson) went with French Thinker (Sheehan) over 1000m in 1:09.6 and 40.8 and Manorbier (Fawcett) recorded 1:08.8 and 40.5. Kind Of Blue (Parmar) and Samurai Sword (Leighton) were kept to a quiet 800m in 1:00.2 and 600m in 43.4, while in similar work Cosmopolitan (Paswan) ran 1000m in 1:12.2 and 43.2 and was followed by Chante Moi (Romero) in 1:12.8 and 42.4.
Others allowed easy work included Muchacha (Clapperton) and Reliability (E Smith), who were timed from the 1200m in 1:27.2, 1:12 and 42.8. Trafalgar (Prastiyou) and Anora (E Smith) ran the same distance in 1:25, 1:10.8 and 42.2.
Whistler (Mullineaux) and Ribkraka (Leighton) strolled over 1000m in 1:15.2 and 42. Catherinenz (E Smith) did similar work in 1:15.4 and 43.8 and Atavus (Clapperton) took 1:14.8 and 43.6.
Tristar (Loki) was well held through the early stages of her hitout and hit the line well after a final 600m in 41.2. Little Orchid (Mullineaux) and Coniston (Holliday) worked in well from the 800m in 58.6 and 41.2.
On the No.2 sand, Ever Charm (P Singh) prepared for Sunday’s local meeting with 1200m in 1:24.8, 1:10.2 and 39.8. With better luck in the running he can get amongst the action.
Te Rapa entry Laura (Leighton) worked well over 1000m in 1:06.4 and 37.2, while The Darzi (Leighton) and Lomasi (Loki) weren’t extended to run the same distance in 1:10.4 and 39.
On the No.1 sand Jake (P Brosnan) was keen in his work over 1200m in 1:22.8, 1:08.4 and 40.2. He looks fitter for his two runs this preparation and is an improver next time he steps out.
