MATAMATA

Mosinvader and Coniston looked the part for Ellerslie on Saturday when they worked well together at Matamata on Tuesday morning.

In a relatively quiet session, most fast work took place on the course proper, which was heavy with the markers set at 12 metres.

Wexford stablemates Mosinvader (Leighton) and Coniston (Holliday) had early use of the track when they cut out 1000m in 1:05.8, finishing off with a final 600m in 38. Mosinvader is in forward condition to resume in the open 1400m on Lawn Shed Winter Finals day at Ellerslie, while Coniston, a two-year-old colt by Wootton Bassett, brings strong trial form to his weekend debut.

Pokuru Gold (Azrul), a rival for Mosinvader at Ellerslie, was travelling well through the line in solo work, with a final 600m in 38.2. Manolete (Harris) appeared to have trained on well from his last start Ellerslie win when he and Pallenis (Smith) left 1000m behind in 1:08.2 and 38.8.

Dance For Her (Smith) and Anora (Harris), another pair from the in-form Cole stable, were keen through the early stages of 1000m, cutting out the distance in 1:05.2 and finishing off well enough in the circumstances with a final 600m in 39.6.

Promising maiden pair The Darzi (Mullineaux) and Osipova (L Singh) left 1000m behind in 1:09.5 and 37.8, while stablemates Ruby Rush (Loki) and Whistler (Mool) got through similar work in 1:09.6 and 37.4.

Ellerslie candidates Miss Silhouette (Fawcett) and Getaway (Prastiyou) covered 1000m in 1:07.6 and 38.3. The Perfect Ram (Sanson) was timed from the 800m in 52,5 and 38.6.

On the No.2 sand, Drop Of Something had co-trainer Wayne Hillis in the saddle when he worked over ground, completing and easy 1200m in 1:26.8, the last 1000m in 1:11 and 600m in 39.4. He has been ticking over pleasingly since finishing third in his last two starts at Ellerslie and returns there on Saturday.

Spencer (S McKay) wasn’t chasing the clock over 1000m in 1:11.6 and 40.4. He is progressing well towards winter features. Last-start Ellerslie winner Fly My Wey (M Brosnan) was keen in striding work over two rounds. He has trained on well and will be hard to beat again on Saturday.
